Antique Japanese Woodblock Print – “Edo no Hana” (Flowers of Edo) – Attributed to Kitagawa Utamaro
£195.00
An original antique Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print, titled “Edo no Hana” (江戸花 – Flowers of Edo), attributed to the celebrated artist Kitagawa Utamaro (c.1753–1806).
This sheet is printed on genuine handmade washi paper and shows all the correct signs of age: natural toning, light foxing, soft fibres, and the delicate wear expected on prints from the late 18th to mid-19th century. The pigments — particularly the faded Prussian blue and sumi black — match authentic Edo-period printing.
The artwork depicts two elegant women in layered kimono, rendered in Utamaro’s signature bijin-ga style. The characters 江戸花 (“Edo Flowers”) appear on the print, with an accompanying attribution 歌麿筆 (Utamaro hitsu — “drawn by Utamaro”).
