A striking and substantial hand carved hardstone lion sculpture, likely in unpolished serpentine, and weighing approximately 4.5kg. This is a solid, heavy piece with confident, detailed carving throughout – not a cast or decorative composite.

The lion is shown standing on a rocky outcrop with one paw raised, in a classic animalier pose. The musculature, mane and stance are strongly modelled, showing skilled craftsmanship. The base is integrally carved and bears the incised initials “B.M.”, indicating a studio or individual sculptor.

The style and execution are consistent with the European animalier tradition, and the piece likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
